Slavonski Brod Through Centuries

According to the Middle Ages written sources, Brod under that name, for the first time, was mentioned on 20th July 1244. in the king ˘s Bela IV deed of gift. It was situated at the mouth of the river Sava and it was in a possession of well-known and powerful feudal family Berislavić Grabarski. Adjective Grabarski, Berislavići got after their possession in Grabarje.

Brod was built by Berislavići at the end of the 15th and beginning of the 16th century. The reason was danger of Turks invading and conquering the most part of Bosnia in 1463. That new, renaissance Brod had a rectangle foundation and it was surrounded by ground bulworks with trenches.
